USA Trip Fall 2007 * Day 7
Surfin' USA
What a night. I woke up at Prem's house (where the barbeque took place), for whatever reason lying on the floor instead of the couch. Someone was watching american football - the first time I watched TV in the United States. Seems to me that I'm hanging around with non-typical Americans. Flo gladly left his car there, so I drove home. Well, I tried and got kind of lost (which is really hard in a small town like SLO). Good thing was, that I could go to Taco Bell without Flo blustering how disgusting that food is.

Me on Bishop Peak
Finally I got home and Flo was already waiting for me. He had a hangover as well and his idea to get rid of it was to go hiking on Bishop Peak, one of the so called Nine Sisters.
The weather was fabulous and it took us about 30-40 minutes to go uphill which was quite challenging, especially with my Converses (or Chuck's as we Germans call them). It was really great though, the last few hundred foot we really had to climb over some rocks until we finally got to the very top for relaxing and catching breath.

Flo on Bishop Peak
While descending I figured that I, once again, needed other shoes because I got blebs on both small toes. We quickly went back to the appartment, decided to go surfing - which would be my first time. So we went to Morro Bay got our wetsuits on (the Pacific is cold like Alaska, which is, besides the rubbish beer they serve here, the only drawback that I can see in California so far) and got in the water. Well, that was fun and I finally figured out, why surfing is said to be the hardest sport to learn as well as the best. That would so be my sport if I lived in an area where there were waves.
On our way back we stopped at Costco as I needed to get an impression of that store after watching Idiocracy the other day. That is a godawful store. But fantastically cheap! You actually can get an Audi Q7 for only $40,000 plus sales tax. That would be approximately 30,000 €! In Germany that thing is starting at 48,300 €. That is 60% more. For a car that is actually from a German company. Can you believe that?
Well, that was pretty much my Sunday! I've had no alcohol (the beer at the exceptional good Mexican restaurant doesn't count) today and to round off the day we rented - inspired by our try hard surfing - the movie Riding Giants at Blockbuster. I need to mention here, that it is really excellent having supermarkets and everything open up to 24 hours, especially on a Sunday.
